Training High-Quality Nursing Professionals

A rapid transformation is taking place in public health, medical care, and social services to cope with an aging society, including advancements in hospital-based and at-home medical treatment, the prevention of medical accidents, and improvements in social services and nursing care. In such social circumstances, there is strong demand for the training of high-quality nursing professionals who have solid technical skills and good character.

The Osaka City University School of Nursing trains nursing professionals through the acquisition of advanced, specialized knowledge and skills. Our students also become cultured and develop a rich character based on a recognition of the dignity of life. These qualities make them capable of helping to improve public health, medical care, and social services under changing social conditions.

Interdisciplinary Curriculum A broad range of studies in different areas beyond one's specialization helps our students to develop comprehensive knowledge and broad-mindedness. Osaka City University provides the ideal, comprehensive environment of an urban university.

State-of-the-Art Information Systems

State-of-the-Art Information Systemsm A campus LAN connects all facilities within the school, and students have access to the library catalog of the university's library, one of the largest in Japan. The Media Center Medical Library is also connected via the Internet to academic organizations throughout Japan and abroad, making available the latest information from around the world.

Curriculum Policy

In the School of Nursing, the following curriculum has been devised based on human resource development objectives.

  • Establishment of a diverse common curriculum for the entire school, so that students acquire a broad education.
  • Implementation of classes, that students can acquire the abilities to undertake nursing with a firm scientific basis, through classes for specialized foundational subjects and specialized subjects with small number of students.
  • Development of education enabling students to acquire the ability to utilize knowledge, ethical reasoning ability, problem-solving ability, the ability to express themselves, and communication ability.
  • Cultivation of a wealth of humaneness and a basic moral perspective, and provision of classes that will be useful for holistic understanding of human beings as the charges of nurses.
  • Provision of courses enabling the acquisition of fundamental abilities in management, which will be indispensable to next-generation nursing leaders, as well as the ability to coordinate with other professions and an international sensibility.
  • Positioning of all courses in stages in consideration of the order of learning.

Excellent Facilities for Hands-On Training

The School of Nursing has various facilities for training and practice that will lead to benefits for people undergoing advanced treatments and societies with an aging, declining population. The location in the center of Osaka provides a rich urban environment, and many adjacent facilities offer opportunities for practice, including the Osaka City University Hospital, public health and social service centers in the city, community support centers, and visiting nurse service stations.

Qualifications and Advancement After Graduation

After the requisite number of credits has been earned in the School of Nursing, a student is qualified to take the National Examination to become a nurse or public health nurse. Graduates may also go on to attend a midwifery school, study to be a school nurse, or attend a graduate school.
Graduates may be hired to work as nurses or public health nurses at the Osaka City University Hospital or at a public and private hospital, public health center, corporation, school, or other organization. Since the founding of our school, 100% of graduates have passed the National Nursing Examination.
